herbs for thyroid health
WHAT HERBS CAN BE HELPFUL FOR THYROID HEALTH?
Have you ever wondered what herbs can be used to support your thyroid health? Perhaps you’ve been to a naturopath or herbalist who has prescribed you some herbs, or just stood in a healthfood aisle wondering if there is something that might help!
Well Ashleigh Mythen is a naturopath & herbalist here in this episode to help us understand which herbs to consider for hypothyroid, hyperthyroid and also for the auto-immune component.
We have a chat about Turmeric, Devils’s Claw, Withania (AKA Ashwanganda), Lemon Balm, Romania, Passionflower, Maca, Mushrooms and more!
I love that many of the tips in this conversation revolved around incorporating these herbs into our everyday cooking – it doesn’t have to mean taking swathes of supplements. Adding to our food sources can be a gentle and safe way of introducing these herbs into our routines too.
Some simple ways to consider would be sprinkling turmeric to meals like salt & pepper, trying different mushroom varieties with your meals, drinking calming herbal teas (eg that might include lemon balm & passionflower) at night time, adding Maca or Withania to your smoothies or bliss balls or a drop of Cinnamon essential oil to your coffee (my fav).
If you’d like to make the turmeric balls/bombs we talk about, you could try using this recipe for ‘Golden Paste’ from whatannabelcooks.com (or it’s in my cookbook) and spreading the mix into one of these silcone oven trays (I got mine from Kmart).
If you have food grade essential oils, you could add say 2-3 drops each of black pepper and turmeric essential oils into the paste recipe at the end of the process.

From Ashleigh Mythen:
I’m a qualified Naturopath practitioner, based in Melbourne, Australia.
Health to me isn’t just functioning and going through the motions of life. It’s being able to face the challenges that we’re confronted with, riding the ups and downs, being able to contribute to our community and families, while working positively and profoundly.. and yes, why the hell not – look good doing it!
I believe that by using preventative medicine (Which in my opinion is the best kind of medicine) eating well, sleeping well, supporting the body of any nutritional deficiencies and using the synergistic power of herbal medicine and focusing on a positive mindset, you can put yourself on the right track to a healthier and more fabulous you.
I like to take a holistic approach.
I know, I know the buzz word of the year.
But what does holistic mean?
Holistic is looking at the whole, we are more than just the sum of our parts rather uniquely put together ecosystem working together that can then go on to affect our physical, mental, psychological and even spiritual health.
