thinning eyebrows + hashimotos

This might seem a bit random but did you know that thinning eyebrows – especially the outer third could be a sign of an underactive thyroid?

It’s connected to hair loss which we will be talking about separately.  When our bodies don’t have enough thyroid hormone it won’t stimulate the hair follicles to grow. It will be using whatever thyroid hormones we have for more important body functions like cellular energy, managing our digestion etc. Eyebrow hair isn’t a core bodily function!

Eyebrow hair can be a clear thyroid symptom but it is also one of the last things to grow back. You can see from this photo my eyebrow’s outer third is there but fairly thin. At the moment my thyroid health is great, so I wonder if my eyebrows will start to flourish!!  (excuse the covid lack of grooming!!)

Given thinning hair is a symptom of thyroid dysfunction, it is something we need to take seriously. Not for the aesthetics but for what it symbolises is not working!


🦋Check your thyroid health with regular blood tests.

💊 Take your thyroid medication and nutritional supplements.

🥬Nourish your body with nutrient rich foods and remove typically inflammatory foods. Having great gut health will make it easier for your body to produce active thyroid hormones.

💦 Try an essential oil mix of 3 drops rosemary, 2 drops cedarwood, 2 drops lavender in a 5ml roller/jar topped with 2 parts castor oil to 1 part jojoba + a little squeeze of Vitamin E oil. Roll on eyebrows daily.
