- Antibodies and how they don’t cause actual damage to the thyroid gland.
- Thyroiditis and the difference between it and Hashimoto’s.
- Reducing cellular stress/inflammation.
- The best question to ask yourself.
- Thyroid health as an onion.
What is ‘cellular hypothyroidism’?
On a simplified level, it is when at the individual cell level, the cell itself is in a hypothyroid state.
Remember that a cell when they are in a low stress state is in manufacturing mode. It is making energy, protein, enzymes, skin, hair etc. To do that they need a lot of T3 inside the cell, binding to receptors to turn on that manufacturing process.
A cell in danger wants to turn OFF the manufacturing process and turn on the protective mechanisms and to do that those cells need a low T3 state inside the cell.
That can be why you’re tired, your hair is falling out and your skin is dry. Even if your thyroid gland is producing thyroid hormones and there is T4 and T3 in the blood stream, the cell itself has flicked the switch into self-protection mode.
The Cell Danger Response
Dr Balcavage referred to a paper by Dr Robert Naviaux called The Cell Danger Response. You can read it here.
It is about how on a cellular level, our tissue and cells innately seek to protect us from danger which is good until it becomes chronic and involves lots of tissues and cells.
The BEST question to ask is:
What is my body trying to protect me from?
